Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffNovember 9, 2008Though we don't consider this program a full-fledged recording suite, All Recorder nonetheless possesses enough editing features to warrant consideration. With cryptic-looking icons for actions bordering the recording-status window, the interface looks more confusing than it is. However, we do think it's convenient that you can simply click the program's system-tray icon to quickly start capturing audio. You can record incoming audio from a variety of sources--including a line-in jack and a microphone--to MP3, WAV, WMA, and OGG formats. The recording capabilities are rather modest, letting you schedule stops and starts, change the bit and sample rates, and letting you adjust the incoming signal strength. The built-in editing functions will be sufficient for nonprofessional use, letting you trim tracks, fade in and out, insert silence, and normalize files. You'll also get some basic audio effects such as echo, delay, reverb, and tremolo, though you can't tweak their settings to your liking. You can edit or add effects both to your own recordings and to any preexisting audio files on your PC. Our only real problem is with the trial version's 30-second recording restriction. Even without its recording functions, All Recorder could stand on its editing features alone, making it a safe bet for most home users.
